Liverpool is a city that wears its heart on its sleeve. Famous the world over as the birthplace of The Beatles, its musical heritage runs far deeper — from the Philharmonic Orchestra (one of the UK's finest) to the thriving club scene around the Baltic Triangle, from buskers on Bold Street to sold-out arena shows at the M&S Bank Arena. The Cavern Club still hosts live music every day of the week.

The waterfront is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason. The Three Graces — the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building — are breathtaking, especially at sunset. The Albert Dock houses Tate Liverpool, The Beatles Story, and a clutch of excellent restaurants and bars, while the nearby Baltic Triangle has become a hub for independent food, drink, and creative businesses.

Scousers are famous for their warmth, wit, and generosity, and the city's community spirit is palpable. Liverpool's food scene reflects its multicultural heritage — Chinese restaurants along Berry Street, Caribbean jerk on Lodge Lane, and some of the best chippy teas in England. The Bold Street strip is a foodie's paradise, mixing independents with established favourites.

The city is compact and easy to navigate on foot or by bus. Beyond the centre, Sefton Park offers gorgeous Victorian gardens, and the beach at Crosby is home to Antony Gormley's haunting Another Place sculpture installation — 100 iron figures facing the sea.
