Glasgow is absolutely pulling out all the stops this Friday, with a city-wide spread of live music, theatre, dub, dance, and late-night revelry that feels almost impossible to fit into a single evening. From a lunchtime play-and-pie to a riotous all-night weekender, the only real problem is choosing where to begin. Layer up, get out there, and let the city do the rest.

Highlights

A Play, A Pie and A Pint: Zamboni — One of Glasgow's most beloved lunchtime institutions returns to the glorious Oran Mor, where a freshly baked pie, a pint, and a brand-new short play make for one of the most civilised hours you can spend in any city on the planet. Zamboni promises to be sharp, funny, and thought-provoking in that compact, punchy way only lunchtime theatre can manage. Head up to the West End at 1:00pm, grab your seat, and let someone else worry about what to do with the rest of the afternoon.

Noah Kahan: the Great Divide Tour — The Vermont folk-rock phenomenon Noah Kahan brings his emotionally charged, anthemic Great Divide Tour to the OVO Hydro at 6:30pm, and if his recent run of sold-out arenas is anything to go by, this one is going to be something very special indeed. Kahan has a rare gift for writing songs that feel both deeply personal and impossibly universal, the kind that fill enormous rooms with people singing every single word back at the stage. Check the website for remaining tickets and get in quickly — this is a big one.

Ward 1 This One Goes Out To You Album Release Gig — There is something genuinely electric about being in the room on the night an artist releases their debut album, and Ward 1 is doing exactly that at 1990 from 7:00pm for just £10. This is grassroots Glasgow at its most exciting — raw, celebratory, and full of that particular energy that only comes when a musician finally gets to share something they have been building for a long time. Be there at the start of something.

432 Presents: Gentleman's Dub Club — Saint Luke's — that breathtaking converted church in the East End — is the perfect cathedral for Gentleman's Dub Club, whose sprawling, brass-laden, bass-heavy sound demands exactly this kind of grand, atmospheric space. Kicking off at 7:00pm, this is the kind of show where you arrive not quite sure what dub is and leave absolutely converted, feet tired and grin intact. Check the website for tickets and do not sleep on this one.

Alabama 3 — The cult legends who gave the world the Sopranos theme — and so much more besides — roll into King Tuts Wah Wah Hut at 7:30pm for what promises to be a glorious collision of country, blues, acid house, and outlaw attitude. Alabama 3 gigs are communal, chaotic, and deeply fun affairs, the sort of night that tends to turn into a story you tell for years. Check the website for tickets and get yourself down to one of Glasgow's most iconic venues.

L.P. Rhythm Glasgow Weekender — If you want to dance until the sun comes up, SWG3 is your destination — the L.P. Rhythm Glasgow Weekender kicks off at 10:00pm and represents exactly the kind of serious, immersive electronic music event that makes Glasgow's club scene the envy of cities twice its size. At £36, it is a proper night out built around quality sound, considered programming, and a crowd that genuinely cares about the music. This is Friday night in Glasgow at its most alive.
