London on a Wednesday in late October is a city that refuses to slow down, and this one has the added crackle of half-term Halloween energy fizzing through every corner. From gallery walls hung with contemporary wonder to a north London rap show that will rattle the floorboards, today is proof that midweek is no time to stay home.

Highlights

Endless Frieze — Tucked away at Cris Contini Contemporary, this exhibition is a treat for anyone who wants to escape the half-term bustle and lose themselves in something quietly extraordinary. Opening at 10:00am, it offers a rare chance to experience a thoughtfully curated space before the crowds descend. Check the website for ticketing details and make a morning of it.

School's Out Trick or Treat Edition! — Rollernation has gone full Halloween for half-term, and if you have youngsters to entertain this is an absolute no-brainer. From 1:00pm the rink transforms into a gloriously spooky skate party where costumes are practically mandatory and the smiles are guaranteed. Tickets run from £16 to £50, so there is an option for every family budget.

Sholto plays David Axelrod — This is the kind of show that serious music lovers circle in their diaries weeks in advance. At 229 London from 7:00pm, Sholto takes on the lush, orchestral psychedelic soul of the legendary David Axelrod, a cult figure whose influence stretches from hip-hop producers to jazz heads and beyond. For £26 it is an evening of rare depth and musical ambition.

Conway the Machine UK Tour — One of the most respected voices in contemporary hardcore rap brings his uncompromising lyricism to O2 Academy Islington at 7:00pm, and it is going to be ferocious in the best possible way. Conway the Machine commands a room with an intensity that few artists can match, and this intimate Islington venue will make every word hit harder. Grab tickets at £28 to £32 before they are gone.
