Brighton on a Wednesday in June feels like the city has made a secret pact with itself to be brilliant. From morning creatures gliding through deep-blue tanks to late-night dancefloors pulsing under the arches, today the whole spectrum of what makes this city irresistible is on offer. Whether you are eight years old or eighty, a football fanatic or a comedy devotee, there is a moment waiting for you today that will make you glad you left the house.

Highlights

Sea Life Brighton - Standard Admission — Start the day somewhere genuinely magical — Sea Life Brighton is one of those places that stops adults in their tracks just as surely as it delights children, with sharks drifting overhead and seahorses doing their slow, otherworldly dance. It opens at 10:00am, making it a perfect morning adventure before the city gets going in earnest. Check the website for current ticket prices and to book your slot.

It'sComingHomeZone: England Vs Croatia (Brighton) — If there is a match on and you want to watch it somewhere that actually cares, Horizon Nightclub is turning its space into a proper football sanctuary from 6:00pm. For just £0–£5 you get the big-screen atmosphere, the collective groans and roars, and that irreplaceable feeling of watching England with a room full of people who are completely, unreservedly invested. It is communal sport-watching at its most electric.

The Secret Comedy Club Wednesdays — There is something deliciously conspiratorial about a comedy night held at Artista Cafe And Gallery — part intimate gig, part neighbourhood secret, with acts that tend to be sharper and more surprising than anything on a bigger stage. Doors from 7:00pm and tickets at just £8–£10, this is the kind of low-risk, high-reward Wednesday night out that Brighton does so well. Come in not knowing quite what to expect, and leave with aching cheeks.

Rufus Rice - Rice Age — Brighton Komedia is one of the finest intimate comedy and performance venues in the country, and tonight it hosts Rufus Rice bringing his show Rice Age to the stage at 7:30pm. If you have not caught Rice before, this is a genuinely exciting introduction — Komedia has a knack for platforming acts on the cusp of something big. Check the website for ticket prices and availability, and do not leave it too long.

Samsara - Brighton — When the rest of the city is winding down, The Volks Nightclub — that legendary arches venue on the seafront — is just getting started. Samsara rolls in from 10:00pm with the kind of deep, immersive electronic music that this storied venue was practically built for. At just £4 on the door, this is an absurdly good deal for a night that could easily carry you through until sunrise.
